Bindon Bottom is situated in the rural, seaside village of West Lulworth, on the main road through the village, which ends at Lulworth Cove, a 5 minute walk. The road from the cove rises gently from sea level to be 33 metres at Bindon Bottom and to almost 50 metres at the top end of the village. Through West Lulworth, the road is narrow in places and care should be taken with oncoming traffic. Being a rural location, there is no street lighting.
The house was built in 1871 and while we aim to meet the needs of all our guests, its location and some of its features make access difficult for people with limited mobility. We are located part way up a gentle hill from the cove. Our five guest rooms are located on the ground, first and second floors. Our ground floor guest room is suited to guests with some limited mobility, but guest rooms on the first and second floor are accessed via one to three flights of staircases.
Sorry, but Bindon Bottom is not suitable for babies, children under 12 or wheelchair users. We are unable to accept pets.
The following statement is a summary of our provision. Our home is non-smoking throughout. Smoking outside is only permitted away from the building so that smoke does not drift into open windows. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
Our location is peaceful and within easy walking distance of Lulworth Cove and the village of West Lulworth.
The nearest rail station to West Lulworth is at Wool, which is about 15 minutes drive away. Wool station is on the main rail network line of London, Waterloo to Weymouth.
There is a village general store just across the road from Bindon Bottom and the World Heritage Visitor Centre is 5 minutes walk down the hill at Lulworth Cove. There are a number of small tourist shops and three hotels/inns with eating and drinking facilities at the Cove.
We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.

Arrival and Car Parking
Check in is between 4pm and 7pm. Please advise us if you are likely to arrive outside these times.
The entrance to Bindon Bottom from the north of the village is a sharp left turn into the driveway and up a short but steep incline. Cars with a low front spoiler/valance will need to take extreme care on entry. To avoid the sharp left turn into the driveway, if you are coming from the Wool direction, once in the village of West Lulworth, at the memorial cross, turn right. At the end of this road, turn left (church on your left) and then down road, past village store on the right to the T junction; Bindon Bottom is then directly ahead of you on the opposite side of the main road.
As you enter the driveway, the parking area is on the left hand side of the property, has a tarmac surface and accommodates one guest car per room. There is lighting in the car park on the side of the house and in the entrance to Bindon Bottom. It is a short distance of approximately 10 meters from the car parking area to the front door of Bindon Bottom. We are pleased to offer assistance with luggage.
Bindon Bottom entrance is via an enclosed porch that has four steps each measuring between 5” to 6” high x 12” deep and lead to the porch door, which is 3’ 3” wide and 6’ 6” high.
There is no handrail for the steps. At night, the outside light illuminates the steps and we also have a light in the porch. Outside and porch lights are on until 1am.
The entrance porch is a Victorian tiled floor, with a radiator to dry boots/warm coats, umbrellas and a seated window sill to sit and tie your shoes laces.
The entrance porch leads into the hallway via two inward opening, split doors. The door opening is 36” wide and 6’ 6” high.
The hallway is carpeted and is lit with an overhead ceiling light at night times. A small reception sideboard is situated on the left hand side as you enter the hallway. The hall way is 6’ wide as you enter from the porch with stairs to the first floor. A door immediately on the right as you enter the hallway is the guest breakfast room and the next door on the right adjacent to this is the Blyton guest bedroom.
The remaining part of the hallway and doors off it is private and used for our own accommodation.
Our Hardy, Barrie, Keats and Barnes guest bedrooms are situated on the first and second floors. The first and second floor rooms are accessed by a 2’ 6” wide, single flight of 13 steps, each being 7” high and 9” deep, with a hand rail on the right side.
As detailed above, the breakfast room is located on the right, immediately as you enter the hallway from the porch. It is carpeted and has natural light from the large front bay window with views over Hambury Tout and the village. There are five tables that accommodate two guests per table – these can be arranged together for parties wishing to breakfast together if required – please let us know. There is a “buffet sideboard” for cereals, fruit juices etc, (assistance can be given with the buffet on request). Cooked breakfast, toast and hot drinks are served at the table.
Blyton Room is the only guest bedroom on the ground floor, next to the Breakfast Room.
As mentioned above our Hardy, Barrie, Keats and Barnes guest bedrooms are situated on the first and second floors. The first and second floor rooms are accessed by a 2’ 6” wide, single flight of 13 steps, each being 7” high and 9” deep, with a hand rail on the right hand side.
Barrie & Hardy Rooms
From the first floor landing area, the Barrie and Hardy rooms are accessed by a single flight of 4 steps, each 7” high and 9” deep and with a hand rail on the right hand side. Both rooms have en-suite shower rooms.

The first flight consists of 10 steps, each being 7” high and 9” deep and with a hand rail on the right hand side. The second flight consists of 6 steps, again each being 7” high and 9” deep, with a hand rail on the right hand side.
The door opening width to all bedrooms is the standard 2’ 6”.

The rear garden is not available to guests; our border collie dog roams freely in the rear garden and sleeps outside in his kennel. He is very friendly, but is restricted to the rear garden and our own private lounge on the ground floor. While he is not allowed in the rest of the house at any time, Bindon Bottom would not be suitable for anyone with a severe dog allergy
The carpark, entrance and porch are illuminated until 1o'clock in the morning. The hallway, stairs and landing areas are all illuminated throughout the night.
We can lock up cycles, diving equipment etc. in our garage.
Please leave muddy boots and wet clothing in the entrance porch.
We are happy to cater for special diets or any particular dietary requirements you may have. Please advise us of these before your arrival. We are unable to cater for people with nut allergies as we do use nuts in the kitchen.
Mobile phone coverage is limited within Lulworth with only O2 and Orange having some coverage. Other services can be picked up on the surrounding hills. A cordless telephone handset on the house phone line can be made available for guest use on request in cases of urgency. There is also a public telephone across the road from Bindon Bottom.
Ceiling mounted audible smoke detectors in each room.
There are fire extinguishers on all floors.
In the event of a fire the alarm will sound. Please advise us if you have a hearing impairment and might not hear this.
